Wish I Was In New Orleans (in the ninth ward)

So Waits week rolls on friends, a few years further along the ways, 1978,  we find Tom down in Texas wishing he was in New Orleans. Don’t everybody wish that if they find themselves in Texas? There’s a story I like about Tom, that may not even be true, that his tour manager booked him into one of them big Canal st hotels in New Orleans one time and Tom felt so uncomfortable he checked out and went and stayed some place on St Charles or somethin. With the real people. I guess that may have been when he was livin’ in a hotel too. Anyways these tunes was for one of them Austin City Limits shows, so he’s got a band with him now, givin’ it a pretty laid back jazz type vibe and an audience making with the enthusiastic clapping. Y’all come back tomorrow ya hear?

  1. Never heard the early interview before, really interesting to get some context. By the way, I love what you’ve done with the place. The new boarding sets the club off a treat.
