I’d Like To Have An Elephant For Christmas
Oh yeah! Y’all just need to look at that sleeve to know you can’t go wrong here friends, ain’t that a thing of beauty? We loves us some Hank ’round here. I guess you could say he and the boys made their names like ol’ ‘Tennessee’ Ernie Ford there singin’ some up-tempo, good -time, swingin’ country in a not too serious vein. Unlike Ernie, Hank ain’t come over all devout or nuthin’ on his christmas songs and all the better for it. This record is most notable for the inclusion of ‘I’d like To Have An Elephant For Christmas’ a stone cold christmas classic much beloved of Randy and myself. Why it ain’t become some kind of seasonal standard, I just don’t know. Here some words from the sleeve notes…
“Hank and the group have set their “No. 1 Country and Western” style to the christmas spirit with popular seasonal songs, both old and new – five of the newest composed by Hank himself. Here are refreshing simplicity and sincerity which bring happiness to our traditional christmas firesides. The Hank Thompson gang all chime out “We Wish You A Merry Christmas,” and the season’s warmth glows all the brighter for the songs they send in their own very special and very personal way”
yes siree bob! Sincerity might be pushing it a bit there, much as I love him you can almost hear him countin’ the money, but here we gots a couple of those Hank penned treats for you. Mmmmm, savoury.
